Restricting vehicle access to our Croisette

This is what we want

In 1997 a petition for a pedestrian Croisette was circulated by the Ducal  following a suggestion by Mr Luca, today our local MP and then mayor of Villeneuve Loubet: it collected a great number of signatures.

A 2003 survey by AFU confirmed that two thirds of Marinians favoured a vehicle-free Croisette, and also revealed that some of the retailing businesses on the Croisette  were opposed to the project.

In 2007 a vote in Amiral, Commodore and Ducal again gave the same results: there is indeed a wish for a car-free Croisette which has remained constant in the past 11 years.

It is possible

There are no legal objections. Our situation with regards to property laws has been looked into, and we are of course prepared to respect the legislation concerning the right of passage. Visitors will be able to stroll and shop around the Marina at leisure.

It is also financially realistic with costs being shared out between 1,500 owners. Interestingly, the initial step of controlling vehicle entry into the Marina will cost us as much as did the useless Extraordinary Meeting in Juan- les-Pins in 2006.  The embellishment works on the Croisette itself can be financed over 2 or 3 years.

Are we being reckless?

Are we dreamers? Is this asking too much? Are we going the wrong way?

Certainly not.

We are not satisfied with the present situation about the Croisette, and we can no longer accept the lack of democracy there.

We make use of all the subtleties of our language, and of all the subtleties of the law in order to enforce our basic right of property, and counter those who want to infrige upon it.

What is at stake:

What we want first of all is a beautiful and welcoming Croisette, pleasant to look at and free from the pollution and obstruction of motor vehicles.

Secondly, it is a matter of principle: we have to put an end to public interference on private grounds. What is at stake here is our right as owners to dispose of our own property.

What we must do:

Quite simply: Vote

Two resolutions about the opportunity of making our Croisette a pedestrian zone will be put to the vote at the 2008 General Assemblies. If you approve of this project, then you must vote YES on both.

If you cannot attend in person, please send your pouvoir with a statement of your vote, or send a blank one to a person of your choice, or to Marina Unit.
